Thousand Trails Soledad Canyon RV Resort – Acton, California

Yesterday I drove the motorhome 75 miles from Fontana to Acton, California. In Fontana I was at 1,295 feet of elevation, crossed the Cajon Pass area at Mountain Top at 4,808 feet and arrived at Acton at 2,558 feet. The motorhome is parked at Thousand Trails Soledad Canyon RV Resort.

I will be here one week. California has been in an extended drought, but this week back to back winter storms starting Wednesday and ending Sunday will bring lots of much-needed rain to the area. I’m in a comfortable place to ride out the storms. I’m scheduled to arrive Mary’s home on March 5th.

El Vado Lake, New Mexico

The motorhome is parked at American Legion Post #262 in Fontana, California. Mary is home attending to personal matters. I expect to depart here later this morning.

I’ve had a change of plans. Last September during my eye exam at the Seattle, Washington VA Hospital I was told I have a large cataract in my right eye that should be attended to in the next year. It’s always been difficult getting to that VA Hospital, so I’ve arrangements to change to a local VA Clinic in Sonora, California…about 25 miles from Mary’s home. I now have a March 7th appointment to meet my new primary care doctor there. He will get me to the eye people and I hoping that I might have my eye surgery before Mary leaves for her three-week trip with her grandson to Turkey on April 18th. I now have plans to arrive Mary’s home on March 5th.

A note about today’s photo album. It contains 189 photos and will take about 6 minutes to view completely. I stayed at El Vado Lake for about three weeks nursing my painful injuries from the terrible accident of May 27, 2012. It’s a beautiful place and I saw many spectacular cloud formations and sunsets…and, oh, the vast array of colors and the Eagles! Some are in the watercolor mode. Because of an extended drought, the lake level was quite low and made for some unusual photos. As always, all of the photos were taken in the hand-held mode. I hope you enjoy them near as much as I enjoyed taking them. If you missed the Blog entry about the accident, you can read about it by clicking this link…

A more relaxed mode..

After our 682 day on-the-go 2011-2013 circumnavigation of the United States, we have decided to slip into a more relaxed mode. In the next few months we will be traveling through areas previously explored. Unless we do something unusual, this Blog will feature a photo album from the circumnavigation and will change daily.

The museum is rather dimly lit and most of their old and great black and while photographs are mounted behind glass making for difficult photography conditions, nonetheless…

Fontana, California

Yesterday I drove the motorhome 85 miles from Palm Desert to Fontana, California. The drive was made on the dangerous Interstate Highway 10…made more dangerous yesterday by strong winds. While the speed limit is 70, some of yesterday’s journey was made at 40 miles per hour. In the below photo we pass through a huge wind generation wind farm just west of Palm Springs. The farm attests to the nearly constant winds in this area…

We are parked at the rear of American legion Post #262 in Fontana where they were kind enough to provide an electrical hookup for us which makes life more convenient…

Here’s the usual dinette window photo. While not spectacular…it’s a convenient location. This morning Mary will fly home from Ontario Airport about 10 miles from here. Pressing matters there are requiring her personal attention. I’ll be traveling alone for about the next three months. This part-time arrangement was part of our agreement when we met in 2008…

The strong wind advisory remains in effect through today. I’ll spend at least one more day here.

Yesterday was a sunny day at 75 degrees. Forecast for today is sunny and 78 degrees.

Chama, New Mexico

We are parked at Thousand Trails RV Resort of which we are members. It’s about 20 miles east of Palm Springs, California. The resort is set on 25 acres and has 805 tall date palm trees. We will leave here later this morning.

Our destination today will be Fontana, California…an 85 mile drive. The reason we are going there is because Mary has flight reservations to fly home tomorrow from Ontario Airport. Although she has been with me only about three weeks this travel stretch, things continue to pile up at her home that need her personal attention. It was all part of our understanding when we met in 2008 and agreed to travel together. Such is life!
