Heron Lake State Park – New Mexico Day 63 (GA217)

Mary is no longer available for RV traveling, but we remain good friends.
Because we have 4,000+ postings, I’ve invited her to continue posting entries on this blog.
I’m currently in my 22nd year of full-time RVing and my lifestyle is changing, For more info click Here

The motorhome is parked at Mary’s home in Murphys, California. I am scheduled to depart November 27th. While here, I’ll be doing cleaning, routine maintenance and minor repairs to both vehicles.

Since my RVing life is changing (see above), I’m starting to re-visit previously visited places. So rather than constantly re-blogging past entries, I’ve decided to do something different.

In 2011-2013, Mary and I did a 682 day, 12,679 miles in the motorhome and 8,000 miles in the Bronco, circumnavigation of the United States, which I called The Great Adventure. I called it so because other than my oldest granddaughter’s high school graduation in June in Connecticut, I didn’t know where we would be going or when we would be there!

So, unless I do something really different and unusual warranting a new blog entry, I’ll be posting entries from that trip.

The motorhome is still parked at Heron Lake State Park about 20 miles south of Chama, New Mexico.

A few days ago, a neighbor camper, John, allowed me to take some photos of his four-month old Siberian Husky dog whose name is Bandit. It was quite the photographic experience trying to capture this turbo-charged perpetual moving machine! The dog is constantly moving and it proved most challenging to get any photos at all!

Isn’t he beautiful? I wish I had 1/10 of his energy. It’s really a shame all that energy is wasted on the young!  🙂

Here are some of the photos that I took…

Sandy And Charlie Brown – Bremerton, Washington

Mary is no longer available for RV traveling, but we remain good friends.
Because we have 4,000+ postings, I’ve invited her to continue posting entries on this blog.
I’m currently in my 21st year of full-time RVing and my lifestyle is changing, For more info click Here

The motorhome is parked at Fort Townsend State Park in Port Townsend, Washington. I’ll be departing from here this coming Sunday.

(Note: I’m currently a little discombobulated right now. My normal mode is to blog what I experienced yesterday. Right now, I’m several blogs behind my experiences. I expect to be back in my normal mode within a couple of weeks.)

A week ago Monday I arrived in Bremerton, Washington for what ended up to be a four-day visit. It allowed me to visit with my friends, Sandy and Charlie Brown, three different times while there. I met Sandy and her husband Ted in Yuma, Arizona back in the days when they were RVing. The below photo was taken in December, 2006. Ted passed away in 2014…

I met Charlie Brown when he was adopted by Ted and Sandy in January, 2007…

Fast forward to 2016. Sandy (no last name being provided because she is now a single woman), came to visit me in the motorhome upon my arrival…

Sandy drove me around town to see some of the local attractions. While we were out, Charlie Brown guarded her car. Charlie is now nine years old…

Sandy was 70 years and two-days old when I took this photo. Looking good for an older lady!  :)…

Thanks for a nice visit Sandy.

I hope you enjoyed the photos!

Yesterday was cloudy/sunny and 73 degrees. Forecast for today is cloudy with a shower and 66 degrees.

WICKED SISTERS

DSC08239 (Copy)I attended a Calaveras County Arts Co. Music In The Parks event in Arnold. On the way I stopped to visit with my old friend Paul Moeller. He was tired after a day at Big Trees State Park with his caretaker, Nellie. She is a marvelous woman who makes his end-of-life issues tolerable. He talks about hopefully passing on to meet his Martha in heaven-soon. It saddens me but I’m aware of how lucky he is to have so many caring people in his life. He is a legend in our community.

DSC08241 (Copy)Cedar Center Businesses in Arnold built a stage for events, starting with the Arts Council 25 years ago. Cathy Mazzafaro is our current Director, a popular, personable and capable replacement for retiring Mary Jane Genochio.  The only funding for these free concerts comes from donations. I call it small town amazing.

DSC08244 (Copy)The Wicked Sisters is a group of teachers who turned to music. Originally four women, they have a couple of stand-ins for when someone can’t make an event. All of them sing.

DSC08243 (Copy)An amazing variety of instruments are used. A banjo, ukulele, several different guitars, a mandolin, different percussion instruments, tambourine, a shaker.

DSC08249 (Copy)Musical numbers varied from “Summertime,” to rock classics and radio pop tunes, country and folk.  Interesting diversity, such as “My Ex’s Commin’ Back To Me”, and a couple really challenging pieces-I didn’t remember the titles but the music still strums through my mind.

DSC08245 (Copy)I met a couple of friends at the concert, but I made a new friend as well. Her owner told me she listened to everything I said.  (Of course, I told her how pretty and well-behaved she was.)

An Unusual Threesome…

The motorhome is parked the Thousand Trails RV Resort located in La Conner, Washington. I’ve been here several times in past years. My membership allows a maximum of a three-week stay, out for one-week and then you can return to the first park. My departure date is September 2nd.

I’m just hanging out taking maximum advantage of my Thousand Trails membership and very agreeable weather.

Mary’s personal to-do list plate, which can only be handled by herself, continues to over-flow. Recently we acknowledged that her meeting up with me in September, just is not going to happen.   😦

I’ll next likely see her when I arrive at her home in November. A friend recently expressed a concern about the status of our relationship. Not to worry…it continues to function per our original agreement when we met in October, 2008. That is…I remain on the road and she will join me when her other life allows. We talk every day on the phone…sometimes more than once. It’s just the way life is!

An Unusual Threesome…I saw one yesterday!

Early yesterday morning, I looked out my dinette window to a tent site across the road from my campsite. I went over to investigate…

Just returning from a trip to Alaska, I found Mallory Paige, her dog Baylor and her motorcycle with a sidecar, Rufio. She’s been traveling this way for all of 2.5 months and is planning to visit all of North America – every state, province and Mexico. She’s from Bend, Oregon and works online as a professional storyteller – freelance adventure writing and ghost writing for various small businesses and pro athletes. Baylor and she have been best friends for 10.5 years. Rufio is a Kawasaki KLR650.
If you want to follow their travels, click this link…OperationMotoDog.com.

Here are the photos I took of them…

CANOEING, AND THE HIGH STEEL BRIDGE

DSC04870 (Copy)

The morning before cousin Bob arrived, Melissa invited me to go canoeing on nearby Lake Kokanee.

DSC04871 (Copy)

It isn’t a very big lake, just right sized, with smooth as glass waters.

DSC04872 (Copy)

She steered and we both paddled. I brought my small back-up camera and didn’t realize the lens was spotted.

DSC04873 (Copy)

I learned to paddle and she likes canoeing better than kayaking. She finds the stroke relaxing and easy to enjoy.

DSC04883 (Copy)

We were surrounded with beauty. The lake has picturesque little inlets.

DSC04891 (Copy)

The weather was beautiful, perfect for photos.

DSC04900 (Copy)

Kind of like an abstract painting.

DSC04908 (Copy)

We saw two boats in this quiet floating painting. Perfect. The lake does not allow motors.

DSC09019 (Copy)

Then yesterday, David and Melissa took us for a scenic drive, through Shelton, Potlach, and on to Hoodsport and above to view the High Steel Bridge.  I think we traveled, north, south, east and west. My sense of geography and direction are not to be depended upon. We stopped here,  hoping to get a glimpse of Mt. Rainer.  Can you see it?  Neither could we. It was totally under cloud cover, but what a lovely little valley.

DSC09022 (Copy)

I caught a glimpse of a little spot of fall.

DSC09053 (Copy)

We probably spent an hour on the bridge, trying for the perfect photo of this deep canyon, with a thin stream of falls to one side.

DSC09040 (Copy)

The Skykomish River forged this deep canyon eons ago.

DSC09074 (Copy)

A triple fall replenishes this portion of the canyon. On everyone’s lips, “We should come see this canyon during winter.”  Of course, the falls would be  spectacular.

DSC09052 (Copy)

We kept taking picture after picture.

DSC09062 (Copy)

But who can question mother nature’s plan.

DSC09081 (Copy)

We returned to the site and enjoyed our last meal together and said our goodbyes, with promises to meet again soon, now that we’ve gotten to know each other. And, I’m sure we will. I’m so grateful we were able to re-connect with cousins, meet Melissa and their little dog, Toby, and enjoy new adventures.
