Corpus Christi, Texas Day 4 (GA370)

Mary is no longer available for RV traveling, but we remain good friends.
Because we have 5,000+ postings, I’ve invited her to continue posting entries on this blog.
I’m currently in my 23rd year of full-time RVing and my lifestyle is changing, For more info click Here

The motorhome is parked at Thousand Trails Thunderbird RV Resort in Monroe, Washington. I’ll depart here June 25th.

Since my RVing life is changing (see above), I’m starting to re-visit previously visited places. So rather than constantly re-blogging past entries, I’ve decided to do something different.

The motorhome is parked at the Eagles Club #2249. We expect to depart here later this morning.

Yesterday was a laundry, do repairs and odds and ends day. The cold windy weather we’ve been experiencing for the last several days is finally starting to break. We actually saw the sun for a while yesterday and the long-range forecast is for sun and moderate temperatures. At Last!

Since I knew I wouldn’t have any photos for today, I saved three photos of the USS Lexington that I took from Ocean Drive the day before yesterday. In these photos, I think she resembles her nickname…The Blue Ghost. She got that nickname because the Japanese referred to Lexington as a “ghost” ship for her tendency to reappear after reportedly being sunk. This, coupled with the ship’s dark blue camouflage scheme, led the crew to refer to her as “The Blue Ghost”.

Corpus Christi, Texas Day 1 (GA367)

Mary is no longer available for RV traveling, but we remain good friends.
Because we have 5,000+ postings, I’ve invited her to continue posting entries on this blog.
I’m currently in my 23rd year of full-time RVing and my lifestyle is changing, For more info click Here

The motorhome is parked at Thousand Trails RV Resort in Chehalis, Washington. I’ll depart here later this morning.

Since my RVing life is changing (see above), I’m starting to re-visit previously visited places. So rather than constantly re-blogging past entries, I’ve decided to do something different.

This entry was posted January 14, 2013…

Yesterday we drove the motorhome the about 50 miles from Kingsville to Corpus Christi, Texas.

We are parked at the Eagles Club #2249 where we spent the night.

As always you may left click upon an image to see an enlarged view and then click once again to see an even larger view…

011

When we arrived at 11:30 AM, we thought we’d get settled in and then drive around a bit to get the lay of the land. However fate had different plans for us. If you look closely at the above photo on the far right in the background you will see a trailer from which emerged Larry Mills. Larry informed us he was the security guard, trustee, bar manager and additional host of other titles. He has been a member of this club since 1982, winters here and summers at his home in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

The Eagles Club is closed on the weekend, but Larry asked if we’d like a tour of the facilities and of course we said yes. As he opened the door, he asked “Would you like a beer?” Mary and I do not usually drink at noontime, but soon found ourselves sitting at the bar…

010

At the bar, Larry drink his Miller Lite while Mary and I drank our normal drinks…mine being Canadian Mist and water.

Larry proved quickly proved to be a very congenial and very funny fellow and we were soon laughing up a storm. To give you an example of his humor, when I asked if he was married, he replied…”No, I’m divorced…my wife ran off with the gardener and I thought she didn’t like Chinese food.” Think about it for a moment…

This is the lounge as seen from the bar…

007

Larry told us the hall has one of the largest dance floors in South Texas…

008

Since Mary and Larry are both originally from Michigan, that only added to the camaraderie. To make a long story short, we sat and chatted with much laughter for the next two hours…after which I was no longer in condition to drive, so we adorned to the motorhome for the remainder of the day.

This Eagles Club actually has provisions for RV’s including 30 amp electrical service, so we are very comfortable here and will likely stay for 3-4 days. Here’s the view from the dinette window with Larry’s trailer in the background…

016

Enjoying meeting interesting and funny people is another joy of the full-time RVing lifestyle!!!

Padre Island National Seashore, Texas – Day 2

The motorhome has been parked at Malaquite Beach on Padre Island National Seashore along the Gulf of Mexico about 25 miles from Corpus Christi, Texas for the last two nights. While there, even with our amplifier system, we were unable to pull an Internet signal. We departed this morning and expect to arrive at Rockport, Texas this afternoon.

In the below Google Earth image, X marks our parking location, CC locates Corpus Christi and PA identifies Port Aransas 30 miles north of Malaquite Beach where we went for a day trip yesterday…

MB

Arriving at Port Aransas our first stop was the library to use their Internet signal to publish yesterday’s Blog entry. The librarian recommended Jay’s Seafood and Spaghetti Works for our lunch where Mary had Blackened Fish Tacos and I had the Blackened Shrimp Tacos…

016

Then to the ferry to see if our motorhome would fit. It would but because of real low tides right now we elected to double back through Corpus Christi before heading north for Rockport this morning…

017

Then to the small Port Aransas Museum…

018

019

031

Then to the Farley Boat Works which is part of the museum…

041

Here’s the museum’s website link…

Last stop of the day was at the Felder Art Gallery so Mary could get her art fix…
