Today we continue our west-bound journey towards Mary’s home in Murphys, California. Google Earth tells me it’s 2,079 miles. We will have no preplanned nightly stopping destinations…just take them as they come…which just happens to be my favorite way of RVing. I’m planning to average not much more than 100-150 miles a day and with stops to see some hopefully interesting things/places along the way…we’re expecting to arrive at our destination early October.

Little Italy Festival, Clinton, Indiana

Yesterday was the nicest weather-wise day we’ve experienced in some time. 74 degrees, mostly sunny, moderate humidity and a nice breeze. So Mary and I drove the Bronco about 10 Miles to Clinton, Indiana to attend the 44th Annual Little Italy Festival. If you hold an event and want Mary to attend…just use the word festival in the title…and Mary will show up. 🙂

Years ago many immigrants moved into this area to work as coal miners. Many of them were Italian and their descendants remain in this area today.

The festival was mostly a bunch of food vendors…some selling Italian-type food and some carnival rides. As usual Mary sampled the food well…see two samplings below. I had two smallish sandwiches…sausage and meatball…unfortunately not as good as I experienced…both in size and in taste… in the Italian section of Revere, Massachusetts a few weeks back. The 16 ounce Miller Lite Beer in the local Eagles Club for $1.25 was great! There was a parade Friday evening which we did not attend.

The Beauty Of Horseshoe Lakes

Yesterday was a halfway decent day weather-wise…78 degrees, partly sunny, lower humidity than recent days and a strong breeze all day long. It’s so nice to have the humidity back down a bit!

New Campsite At Horseshoe Lakes

When we arrived in mid-afternoon the day before yesterday at Thousand Trails Horseshoe Lakes RV Resort in Clinton, Indiana, it was a hot and humid day. I was tired from driving and in no mood to go campsite hunting so we took the first one we came to near the Adult Lodge so we could use the Internet signal.

Yesterday we took a nice morning walk around the pretty grounds and while doing so came upon and unoccupied campsite with a very pretty view right on the shore of Horseshoe Lake. Upon arriving back at our motor home we decided we’d rather have the pretty site rather than an Internet signal, made the move and so here we are…

It’s at a slight elevation above the lake so we are getting a nice breeze that we were not getting at the other site. It really helps with the heat and humidity. Yesterday was an off-and-on rainy day so we did our laundry and watched the movie My Fair Lady last night. Around midnight we experienced a summer-heat lightning and thunder-storm without a lot of heavy rain. It was an enjoyable to watch the reflections off of the lake kind of storm. Our new site is quite large and not too near other campers, so also relatively quiet. We’re glad we made the change of sites. It’s a most enjoyable spot to wait out the Labor Day holiday weekend before getting back on the road.

Thousand Trails Horseshoe Lakes RV Resort, Clinton, Indiana

Yesterday we drove the motorhome about 175 miles to arrive safely at Thousand Trails Horseshoe Lakes RV Resort, Clinton, Indiana. Another hot and humid day. We’ll hangout here through the Labor Day weekend.

Since we are running ahead on our Verizon Air Card usage, we chose this site so that we can use the Thousand Trails internet signal (which originates from the Adult Lodge) instead while still in our motorhome.

We are only a few miles from the border of Illinois.

Workhorse Chassis factory Tour, Union City, Indiana

Yesterday Mary and I took the Workhorse Chassis Factory Tour at Union City, Indiana. We have a Workhorse Chassis under our motorhome. The tour was about one hour-long and we saw how the chassis’ are made from the basic frame rails to the finished product.

We were told they employ about 300 people and have about 250,00 square feet of factory space. We were also told that back in the heyday of motorhome purchasing in 2002-2003 they used to turn out 150 units a day. Because of the current economy, now they only do 25 units a day of which 95% are chassis’ for commercial trucks. Workhorse provides chassis’ for most motorhome manufacturers as well as bus chassis’.

We were not allowed to take photos inside the factory, only a finished product outside. It was nice to get a better understanding of the chassis we have under our motorhome.

Since it was another hot and humid day, plus Mary really likes it because it’s pretty and mostly quiet, we spent the remainder of yesterday here in Union City. More reading, napping and a movie.

Today we will drive the motorhome west-southwest about 175 miles to Clinton, Indiana and a Thousand Trails Resort where we will hangout for the Labor Day holiday weekend and avoid all the crazies out on the road.
