Working On The Motorhome – Day 6

The motorhome is parked in Mary’s yard at her home at Murphys, California. I expect to be here until shortly after Thanksgiving cleaning and doing minor work on both the motorhome and Bronco. After our 682 day journey, they are both ready for some attention.

Yesterday was a cold 52 degrees with early morning rain and cloudy most of the day. Sunny skies return later today with a high of 57. Then sunny through November 6th with temps in low 70’s to high 60’s.

Now that all my outside work is done on the motorhome and Bronco,  I’ve shifted my attention to the inside of the motorhome, meaning…interior cleaning.

Yesterday, instead of cleaning, I chose another task. We bought the motorhome in 2009. I completed the installation of the six-channel surround sound system on October 2, 2009 http://wp.me/pDCku-1x

I completed the installation of the 26″ flat screen TV on October 30th, 2011 http://wp.me/pDCku-2FA

When I installed the new flat screen TV, I did so in a manner that did not provide for the connection of our 19″ TV in the bedroom…hence it has not worked since that time. Time to fix that and that is what I did yesterday. It took some doing, but I finally got it working.

It all revolves around the control box with the eight brass button which sits atop the VCR/DVD player over the passenger seat. By pushing the right combinations of buttons it routes the video signal to where you want it…

As always you may left click upon an image to see an enlarged view and then click once again to see an even larger view…

DSC07531

This is the 19″ TV in the bedroom area where I was trying to get the signal to go…

DSC07532

The process started by taking out the VCR from the compartment and setting it in a manner where I could still run a VHS tape. The control box is still in the compartment because the wires going to it are very short…

DSC07534

The six-channel surround sound and DVD player is in the compartment to the left of the TV screen over the driver’s seat…

DSC07537

Behind which are lots of wires…

DSC07538

I have no manual for the control box. But I do for the 26″ TV, the 19″ TV, the six channel surround sound box and the VHS/DVD player. The problem I faced was how to wire the system properly so that the six channel surround sound would work properly in all modes…

DSC07540

After puzzling over this mess for a couple of hours and trying a number of combinations, I finally got things working properly and the bedroom TV now works…

DSC07539

One more item to remove from my to do list.

Slowly but surely, I’m chipping away at my to do list. More cleaning today.

Since our accident about 1.5 years ago, I now suffer from diminished energy/stamina. I can now work only 2-3 hours a day before I get tired and have to quit. I know that these current Blog entries are not particularly exciting reading, but they do reflect the daily activities of a full-time RVer. Gotta stop and clean and work on the vehicles once in a while!

Enjoying nice weather is another joy in the life of a full-time RVer!

Working On The Motorhome – Day 5

The motorhome is parked in Mary’s yard at her home at Murphys, California. I expect to be here until shortly after Thanksgiving cleaning and doing minor work on both the motorhome and Bronco. After our 682 day journey, they are both ready for some attention.

A brief preview of coming winter weather today…temperature 55 degrees with a couple of thunderstorms. Through November 15th, forecast is sunny with cooler temps.

Now that all my outside work is done on the motorhome and Bronco,  I’ve shifted my attention to the inside of the motorhome, meaning…interior cleaning.

If you remember yesterday, I decided to clean under Mary’s dinette seat that started like this…

As always you may left click upon an image to see an enlarged view and then click once again to see an even larger view…

DSC07514

Most of the stuff under there is printed materials that I brought from my previous motorhome and been hauling around for years. Such as maps and guide books for every state, Mexico and Central America which all are now available online. The under the seat area now looks like this…

DSC07528

I’m betting Mary will find a way to fill that empty space soon… 🙂

I also cleaned out the rat’s nest in my compartment above the driver’s seat…

DSC07524

Here are the outgoing items. The metal detector which we never used will go to Mary’s grand-kids. The two tripods will go to Mary’s kids. All the stuff in the large box Mary will go through to decide their ultimate fate…recycle center, Good will, etc…

Working On The Motorhome – Day 4

The motorhome is parked in Mary’s yard at her home at Murphys, California. I expect to be here until shortly after Thanksgiving cleaning and doing minor work on both the motorhome and Bronco. After our 682 day journey, they are both ready for some attention.

The sunny, mid-to-high 70’s weather continues…for today. The weather forecast changed dramatically overnight. Tomorrow is now 56, cloudy with showers.

Now that all my outside work is done on the motorhome and Bronco,  I’ve shifted my attention to the inside of the motorhome, meaning…start the interior cleaning.

First activity yesterday was to fix the cosmetic cover piece on the dinette seat where Mary normally sits…

As always you may left click upon an image to see an enlarged view and then click once again to see an even larger view…

DSC07509

Since the wood had striped from the screws, I had to move all three brackets about one inch to the left and re-insert the screws. All fixed now…

DSC07513

As long as I had the seat area opened, I decided that area needed cleaning. We have used this area to store seldom used items…

DSC07514

So out everything came. After I took the next photo, Mary decided she wanted to keep our scanner in her home office, so the area is now empty…

DSC07517

As I took the stuff out, I kinda sorta evaluated why I need to keep it. Most of it came from my previous motorhome which I sold in 2009. I’ve been hauling this stuff around for years. Today I’ll more closely evaluate the items. I believe most of the printed matter is now available online and I expect it will end up in the recycle bin…

Now that all my outside work is done on the motorhome and Bronco,  I’ve shifted my attention to the inside of the motorhome, meaning…start the interior cleaning. The day before yesterday I described the shower bath for the screen door and window screens. Yesterday it was time to re-install them. The screen door went back on with no problems.

Prior to installing the window screens, the window guide slots needed to be cleaned of dirt and dust. First I used a vacuum brush and then wiped the window frame with a damp hand towel. The next step I used a flat-blade screwdriver with a cloth and made a number of passes to clean down inside the window guide slot…

As always you may left click upon an image to see an enlarged view and then click once again to see an even larger view…

Followed by a Q-tip cleaning…

DSC07478

After an application of a light oil inside the window guide slot, I cleaned the window interior glass…the outside be done a few days ago. Then re-installed the screens…

Mary came in a few minutes later and exclaimed…wow, just like a new motorhome!

More cleaning today.

Now that all my outside work is done on the motorhome and Bronco, yesterday was time to move my attention to the inside of the motorhome, meaning…start the interior cleaning. In order to get a through cleaning, I removed the screen door then all of the window screens and took them along side Mary’s house for a scrubbing and shower bath…

As always you may left click upon an image to see an enlarged view and then click once again to see an even larger view…

First  a scrub down with a soapy sponge and rag…

DSC07463

I used a plant watering nozzle for the rinsing which provide a good water flow without damaging water pressure for a thorough rinse…

DSC07466

After the rinse bath, I dried the door with a small hand towel. Then followed the same procedure with the six window screens and set them in the sun to dry…

DSC07471

To insure complete drying, I left them in the sun all day and overnight. I’ll re-install them today.

Working On The Bronco – Day 2

The motorhome is parked in Mary’s yard at her home at Murphys, California. I expect to be here until shortly after Thanksgiving cleaning and doing minor work on both the motorhome and Bronco. After our 682 day journey, they are both ready for some attention.

The sunny, mid-to-high 70’s weather continues. Forecast remains the same through November 1st.

Yesterday was another work-on-the-Bronco day. This time it was to clean the interior. First thing was to unload most of the stuff from what I refer to as my rolling storage bin…

As always you may left click upon an image to see an enlarged view and then click once again to see an even larger view…

DSC07454

Then vacuum thoroughly, clean the dust off of the dashboard and then clean all the interior windows…

DSC07457

Once clean, load all the stuff back in…

DSC07460

The road of life is a dusty one! I know this is not particularly exciting reading, but it’s all part of the daily life of a full-time RVer. I’m most pleased the weather has been cooperating for the accomplishment of my outside work.
