Menemsha & Aquinnah On The Island Of Martha’s Vineyard

Jim says:

Yesterday was a perfect day!

The sky was clear and sunny and 69 degrees with a southerly wind of 10 miles per hour. That weather combined with the prettiest scenery in New England made it the perfect day.

We spent a delightful 5 hours wandering the western side of the Island of Martha’s Vineyard. First stop was in the picturesque harbor of Menemsha. The movie Jaws was filmed on Martha’s Vineyard. In the scene where the hired shark hunter Quint puts to sea…that’s the harbor of Menemsha. After wandering the harbor for about three hours, we stopped and had lunch. I had steamer clams and Mary had a stuffed quahog, stuffed scallop, cherry-stone clams and oysters on the half-shell. Shortly after that she was heard to say “I think I’ve died and gone to heaven!”

As an aside…
Menemsha is part of the town of Chilmark that has 843 full-time residents with a median home price of 2.3 million dollars.

Then on to the extreme western end of the island to the Town of Aquinnah. Famous for its clay cliffs, it has 344 full-time residents. This particular place was a reputed favorite of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis.
