The motorhome is parked at Thousand Trails RV Resort in La Conner, Washington. I’ll depart here September 10th..

 

 

 

Since my RVing life is changing (see above), I’m starting to re-visit previously visited places. So rather than constantly re-blogging past entries, I’ve decided to do something different.

  In 2011-2013, Mary and I did a 682 day, 12,679 miles in the motorhome and 8,000 miles in the Bronco, circumnavigation of the United States, which I called The Great Adventure. I called it so because other than my oldest granddaughter’s high school graduation in June in Connecticut, I didn’t know where we would be going or when we would be there!

So, unless I do something really different and unusual warranting a new blog entry, I’ll be posting entries from that trip.

Note: Mary flew from Baton Rouge Airport, Louisiana on March 12 to her home in California. I’m hoping to get her back with me by mid-April. My current plans are to drift SLOWLY north along the Mississippi River to Memphis, Tennessee where I’ll then turn northeast heading for New England for the Summer. Can’t go north too fast because it’s still cold up there! The Mississippi River is rich in history…I expect it to be an interesting passage.

Today’s Blog is about dead people…

 

 

Yesterday I drove the Bronco the about five miles to my first stop of the day…the Natchez City Cemetery. It’s a rather pretty place set among rolling hills and beautiful old oak trees. Many notable people are buried here.

The motorhome is parked at Mary’s home in Murphys, California. I expect to leave here May 8th. While here, I’ll be doing routine maintenance, repairs and general cleaning.

 

 

Since my RVing life is changing (see above), I’m starting to re-visit previously visited places. So rather than constantly re-blogging past entries, I’ve decided to do something different.

A few days ago while my Ford Bronco II was in the shop for a transmission rebuild, I drove the motorhome the about seven miles east from Silver City, New Mexico to Fort Bayard.

 

 

The fort site was chosen in 1863 for its springs and outstanding view of the Apache war trails. The fort was established in 1866. In 1899, the Army deactivated Fort Bayard and established it as a tuberculosis hospital and research center. In 1922, the hospital was transferred to the Veterans Bureau, which became part the new Veterans Administration in 1930. The last patient was transferred to another hospital in November, 2010.

 

 

The first known internment in the cemetery was Sergeant David H.Boyd of the 3rd U.S. Calvary, buried in 1866. The cemetery was designated a National Cemetery in 1973.

The motorhome is parked at the Paradise Casino in Yuma, Arizona. I was expecting to leave here recently, but I’ve changed my mind. I currently have reservations at Thousand Trails in Palm Desert, California, February 13th. Between now and then???? For the moment I remain in Yuma.

 

 

I just love the ability to change plans at a moments notice. As I tell everyone…All my plans are firmly etched in Jello!

 

 

Since I’ve been coming to the Yuma area for a number of years during the Winter, I’ve explored the area pretty thoroughly. Rather than re-visit each place again, I’ve decided to show photos I’ve taken in the past. All these places are within about a one-hour drive from Yuma.

The motorhome is parked at Thousand Trails Thunderbird RV Resort in Monroe, Washington. I’ve been here many times before. I’ll depart here September 20th.

 

I’ll be hanging out in this general area until about the beginning of October, taking maximum advantage of my Thousand Trails membership and very agreeable weather.

 

(Note: I’m currently a little discombobulated right now. My normal mode is to blog what I experienced yesterday. Right now, I’m a number of blogs behind my experiences. I expect to be back in my normal mode in about three weeks.)

Cactus in Yuma, Arizona

The motorhome is now parked at the Paradise Casino in Winterhaven, California. Less than 1/2 mile away is the Colorado River and on the other side…the sunniest place on Earth…Yuma, Arizona. I’m here hanging out and enjoying the nice weather. I have several friends in the area. Mary is now expecting to rejoin me here in later January.

Our two-week cold snap is finally over. Daytime temps forecast for the next couple of weeks is in mid-to-low 70’s. Yeah…that’s more like it and the primary reason I come here this time of year.
