Step Back Into The 1950’s In Bisbee, Arizona… (GA51)

Mary is no longer available for RV traveling, but we remain good friends.
Because we have 4,000+ postings, I’ve invited her to continue posting entries on this blog.
I’m currently in my 22nd year of full-time RVing and my lifestyle is changing, For more info click Here

The motorhome is parked at Thousand Trails San Benito RV Resort, Paicines, California. I’ll depart from here April 19th.

Since my RVing life is changing (see above), I’m starting to re-visit previously visited places. So rather than constantly re-blogging past entries, I’ve decided to do something different.

In 2012-2013, Mary and I did a 682 day, 12,679 miles in the motorhome and 8,000 miles in the Bronco, circumnavigation of the United States, which I called The Great Adventure. I called it so because other than my oldest granddaughter’s high school graduation in June in Connecticut, I didn’t know where we would be going or when we would be there!

So, unless I do something really different and unusual warranting a new blog entry, I’ll be posting entries from that trip.

This entry was posted March 16, 2012…

We arrived in Deming, New Mexico four days ago. Mary departed three days ago for home to tend to taxes and other business. I’m at Rockhound State Park in Deming, New Mexico waiting out a forecasted very windy coming Saturday through Tuesday. Prior to arriving in Deming there was so much to see and do I didn’t get to Blog about it. Here is one now…

——————————————————————————–

Back when I was a teenager in the 1950’s, my family was quite poor and we lived in a trailer park in Revere, Massachusetts. Despite not being wealthy, I remember the 1950’s as probably the best decade ever to be a teenager. All that Doo-Wop music!

In Lee’s Trailer Park, where we lived, I remember there was a trailer that looked much like this one. It was the largest in the park out of about 50 trailers…

The inside looked like this…

No, these are not photos that I took back then, but photos I took recently when visiting Bisbee Arizona. It’s called the Shady Dell Trailer Park and has a definite 1950’s theme…

At Shady Dell there are about 18-1950’s vintage trailers all restored to original condition. Here for about $100 a night you can sleep in a 1950’s vintage trailer while visiting the area.

Another enjoyable day of RVing!

In other news…

We had one other stop planned in the Chiracauha Mountains, but with an approaching high wind and cold temperature weather forecast we decided to go instead to Columbus, New Mexico. So this morning we’ll depart Belle Starr’s Silverado Ranch and complete our enjoyable six-week visit to Southern Arizona. It’s been most interesting and fun.

Shady Dell Trailer Park – Bisbee, Arizona

The motorhome is parked in Mary’s yard at her home at Murphys, California. My departure date to head South is now set for tomorrow morning. Mary will fly to meet me in Yuma, Arizona in early January.

My purposes in leaving now are first to escape the soon-to-come much colder weather in Murphys, California. In addition, I have lots of friends in the Yuma area plus I’ll cross into Mexico to visit my dentist for my annual cleaning, refurbish the freon in the Bronco’s air conditioning system and get new prescription eyeglasses.

Yesterday was a mostly sunny day at 64 degrees.  Forecast for today is mostly sunny and 67 degrees. The forecast for Tuesday is a high of only 47 degrees. I’m getting out of Dodge just in time!

A more relaxed mode…

After our 682 day on-the-go 2011-2013 circumnavigation of the United States, we have decided to slip into a more relaxed mode. In the next few months we will be traveling through areas previously explored. Unless I do something unusual, this Blog will feature a photo album from the circumnavigation and will change daily.

Bisbee, Arizona

The motorhome is parked in Mary’s yard at her home at Murphys, California. My departure date to head South is now set for next Monday. About one month later Mary will fly to meet me in Yuma, Arizona.

The cleaning  and minor work on the motorhome and Bronco is now completed. Only last-minute items remain to be done.

Yesterday was a mostly sunny day at 64 degrees.  Forecast for today is mostly sunny and 64 degrees.

A CHANGE…

I’ve decided that my current daily activity (preparing the motorhome for my December 2nd departure) is not really all that exciting to read or see. I’ve further decided to share with you some of the photos from our 2011-2013, 682 days of circumnavigating the United States.

John Slaughter Ranch – Arizona

The motorhome is parked in Mary’s yard at her home at Murphys, California. My departure date to head South is now set for December 2nd. About one month later Mary will fly to meet me in Yuma, Arizona.

The cleaning  and minor work on the Bronco is now completed. After our 682 day journey, they were both ready for some attention. Both are now in near-showroom condition. The only thing awaiting my attention is re-stocking the motorhome and assisting Mary with some of her house chores.

Yesterday was a mostly sunny day at 65 degrees.  Forecast for today is mostly sunny and 64 degrees.
