2004 Central America trip…
This trip ended up being 343 days and 16,000+ miles through the back-country of Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama. 11 rigs started the trip, within a week we broke into three smaller groups for ease of traveling. Only myself and one other rig went the full, pre-planned route. All the others dropped out for various reasons. All returned safely to the United States. I’m planning to show these photos, more or less, 10 a day, whenever I’m not doing something else deserving a blog entry. FINALLY, it must be remembered these photos are prior to my switching to digital in 2006. The films were developed during our trip and the lack of quality control sometimes is plainly evident.

Once in Panama we drove through MILES AND MILLIONS of banana trees. Here the bananas are received and then packaged for shipping all over the world…

With the rigs parked in David, Panama, I took the Bronco and headed towards the mountains to the Village of Boquete, 25 miles distant and at the about 3,000 foot elevation….
The guidebook described Boquete as “the village of eternal spring and flowers.” It was certainly different from anything we saw in Mexico or Central America. It very much resembled a village in the Swiss Alps and reminded me a great deal of the town of Leavenworth in the Cascade Mountains in the State of Washington…

In the small village of Nata is one of the oldest churches in the Americas, built in 1522. The locals told us everything is original, except the bells, which are now made of bronze, used to be made of gold. However, the Spanish took them away…
They unlocked the way to the bell tower so we could see the view of the central plaza…
