Yesterday I wrote about my very full three days of configuring my new Asus Windows 10 Computer.

 

In addition yesterday, I also put in another full eight hours further tweeking the new machine, including two full hours with Norton converting my coverage on this device. So I now have in excess of 40 hours setting it up, but I’m nearing the end.

 

In truth, besides the hassle involved, I’m quite pleased with the final setup and they way it is running. With a little luck, it will be smooth sailing…at least for awhile.  🙂

 

So here’s my final screen setup showing me as a happy camper! While it is not an RV, you get the general idea…

… after three very full and mostly frustrating days (some 30+hours) , I’ve put away, my almost six-year-old Sony Windows 7 machine. This blog posting is being totally produced on my new Asus Windows 10 machine.

 

It’s been quite the experience and there is definitely a learning curve involved! While, I’m not at 100%, I’m about 95% there. The rest I will slowly tweek out in forthcoming days. It was a process that I was not especially looking forward to. Who says you cannot teach an old dog new tricks? I’m here to tell you differently!  🙂

 

With Windows 10, Microsoft definitely wants you to do things THEIR WAY!

 

Many thanks to a young local guru I met at the Eagles Club! Without Cody’s help, I’d still be struggling with how to turn my photos from icons into thumbnails and the really big one…loading Picasa 3 into my computer. It took him all of two minutes to show me the way to do these two items. For which I happily handed him a $10 bill (hey, that’s the equivalent of $300 dollars an hour after taxes!).

 

So, the old machine has been put away (until a stop at some recycling bin in the future), and here’s a photo of the new set-up…

The new machine sits atop my new laptop cooler, although it really does not need it. The old machine cpu’s ran in the mid-130 degrees temps…with the cooler. The new machine cpu’s run in the mid-80 degrees..without the cooler. Asus advertises its Ice Cold technology and it really works! I also like the angle of the laptop cooler which makes typing a lot easier. My wireless mouse and external hard drive can be seen to the right.

 

Since I dumped all the bloatware that comes with a new computer and tweeked the performance management and other things that slow a computer, for the moment it’s lighting fast! Press the on button and 10 seconds later…it’s ready to go, even with my currently throttled-back (from 4G) 3G Verizon Internet signal!

 

As a matter of fact, I’m sitting here without any socks on, because they got blown away!  🙂

 

So, as I’m unwillingly dragged into the 21st Century, onward I go into a new computer age (for me!) and with a little luck, I’ll figure out the remaining 5% of stuff within the next six years!  🙂

My new computer finally arrived yesterday. For those of you who care about such info, it is an Asus and comes with the latest Intel I-7 cpu, 7th generation, 960mx graphics card, 1088 hd 15.6″ screen and 256 gb solid state hard drive. This brand and features were all recommended by my computer guru, Kenny Coleman.

Since it arrived so late (almost 8pm), I elected not to turn it on. After I complete my regular morning activities plus today is laundry day, I’ll power the startup process.

 

I’ve recently been watching lots of YouTube videos relating to startup involving removing bloatware, transferring files from my old computer, personalization, etc…

 

I’m expecting the process to take a couple of days. Such is life and fortunately I have the time.  🙂
