Allentown, Pennsylvania Day 3 (GA507)

Mary is no longer available for RV traveling, but we remain good friends.
Because we have 5,000+ postings, I’ve invited her to continue posting entries on this blog.
I’m currently in my 23rd year of full-time RVing and my lifestyle is changing, For more info click Here

——————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————-

The motorhome is parked at Mary’s home in Murphys, California. I’m planning to depart November 26th.

Since my RVing life is changing (see above), I’m starting to re-visit previously visited places. So rather than constantly re-blogging past entries, I’ve decided to do something different.

This entry was posted May 31, 2013…

The motorhome is parked at American Legion Post #367 in Allentown, Pennsylvania. We will depart later this morning.

Yesterday was Spoil Mary Day. She indicted she was in bad need on art fix…so I drove the Bronco the about three miles to the Allentown Art Museum of the Lehigh Valley. You can read about this museum by clicking their official website link…

Then we drove the about six blocks to downtown. We parked across the street from the Pennsylvania Power & Light building where I worked for about three years…36 years ago. It was built from 1926 to 1928. It has 23 stories and is 322 feet high. It’s the tallest building in Allentown. In 1930, the PPL Building was named the “best example of a modern office building” by Encyclopedia Britannica and also featured the world’s fastest elevator…

One block down Hamilton Boulevard to The Brew Works so Mary could get her craft beer. She had a Porter which she proclaimed the best she has ever tasted. So good in fact…she had two. Here she gives the place a “two fingers up” rating….also an indication she was on her second beer…

084

And I was forced to give the place a “two fingers down” rating because…

*It was to dark in the place to read a menu…

*The print on the menu was too small…

*The place was too noisy…

*Every song played on the music system I had never heard before…

*They had no Miller Lite Beer which I drink, so was forced to drink iced tea…

The result was one happy old chick and one grumpy old man…  🙂

Here are some photos from the Brew Works. A great place to take photos because of lots of reflections…

From there we went to an authentic Jamaican restaurant to eat. Mary loved the place and I gave it a “two fingers down” rating because the chicken had lots of small bones in it and they had neither Miller Lite Beer or iced tea. Oh well, it was Mary’s day anyways and she had a good time.

Along the way we saw the children playing in the water fountains…

Yesterday was another scorcher and it’s supposed to be even hotter today at 91 and tomorrow at 92… with it really feeling to be 95 to 100 degrees. This is the sunrise taken at 5:30 AM…

Art Museum – Allentown, Pennsylvania

The motorhome is currently parked at Mary’s home in Murphys, California. My current departure date is scheduled for December 1st. Nine days and counting!

During this remaining time I’ll be attending to cleaning of the motorhome in addition to assisting Mary with her activities. This item is not particularly exciting to write about…so…instead I’ll be showing Picasa Web Albums from our 682 day, 2011-2013 circumnavigation of the United States. It was Mary’s second circumnavigation and the sixth for myself.

Unless we do something unusual, this Blog will feature a photo album from the circumnavigation and will change daily. So come back tomorrow.

To read about today’s photo album location, click this link…http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Allentown_Art_Museum

CLICK ON THE BELOW PHOTO. ONCE YOU ARRIVE AT THE PHOTO ALBUM, SIMPLY CLICK “SLIDESHOW” AND ENJOY!

I HOPE YOU ENJOYED THE PHOTOS.

The cataract surgery of my right eye was conducted on October 9th and my left eye on November 6th. Both eyes are now at 20/20. The only remaining item left (other than eye drops until early December) is a visit to the optometrist to be fitted for reading glasses at the VA Hospital in Livermore, California on November 25th.

Yesterday was a partly cloudy day with and 56 degrees. Forecast for today is cloudy with rain showers and 57 degrees.

Enjoying nice weather is another joy in the life of a full-time RVer!

Santa Fe, New Mexico – Day 5

Mary remains at home in California tending to medical issues.

The motorhome is parked at Fraternal Order of Eagles Airee #2811. I expect to depart this morning.

Santa Fe has a population of about 68,000 and is at about 7,000 feet of elevation. You can read all about this city by clicking this Wikipedia informational link…
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Santa_Fe,_New_Mexico

Yesterday I drove the Bronco the about one mile to the state capital building also known as The Roundhouse because of its unusual design. It is also an art museum all by its self. I’ve read where it houses more than 600 pieces valued at more than 7 million dollars.

Here’s a link about the building from the Santa Fe travel guide website…
http://santafe.org/New_Mexico_State_Capitol/index.html

Here’s a short YouTube video about the building…
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pc1R7QvwjuY

Photography was a bit of a challenge with areas of low light, but the biggest difficulty was that most of the pieces were framed in glass or covered by plexiglass which makes for a lot of light reflection problems.

As always you may left click upon an image to see an enlarged view and then click once again to see an even larger view…

Here’s a Google Earth view of the roundhouse from directly above…
