It Doesn’t Happen By Accident… (GA19)

Mary is no longer available for RV traveling, but we remain good friends.
Because we have 4,000+ postings, I’ve invited her to continue posting entries on this blog.
I’m currently in my 22nd year of full-time RVing and my lifestyle is changing, For more info click Here

The motorhome is parked at Thousand Trails Palm Springs RV Resort at Palm Desert, California. I expect to depart March 6th.

Since my RVing life is changing (see above), I’m starting to re-visit previously visited places. So rather than constantly re-blogging past entries, I’ve decided to do something different.

In 2012-2013, Mary and I did a 682 day, 12,679 miles in the motorhome and 8,000 miles in the Bronco, circumnavigation of the United States, which I called The Great Adventure. I called it so because other than my oldest granddaughter’s high school graduation in June in Connecticut, I didn’t know where we would be going or when we would be there!

So, unless I do something really different and unusual warranting a new blog entry, I’ll be posting entries from that trip.

This entry was posted February 13, 2012…

Back in the sixth grade I had a Jewish manual training teacher who offered this piece of wisdom about life…”Plan your vork and vork your plan”. With his accent, the word work…sounded like vork. It seemed like good advice. Later in life I became an engineer and an ability to organize was an asset.

It’s really helpful in my RVing life. Researching an area prior to a visit is almost as much fun as going there.

Today we leave our RV Resort where we have been parked for the last ten days visiting friends and Mary’s relatives (another cousin yesterday) and head for southern Arizona. For about the next month we will be exploring much of the rather remote area basically south of Interstate Highway 8 and Mexico. A rough rectangular area of 150 x 50 miles.

Because of the remoteness…finding potential safe camping sites and places where we might empty our waste-water tanks became a concern. For the last several days, searching maps and books, but primarily searching on the Internet…I’ve managed to find some of those locations. With the help of Google Earth I’ve put this information in a manner which will help me find these locations while in the area. You may click upon the below image to see it in a larger view…

I’m not going to explain the codes to you…suffice it to say I know what they indicate. With this information available, as we explore the area for the about next month, it will greatly enhance our visits in that area. In other words…it will make me a happier camper!  &lt):) cowboy

It ain’t easy being an ex-engineer…I just cannot help myself!  🙂

Going to museums and understanding the history of the areas we visit is one of our very favorite things to do in our RVing lifestyle.

In other news…

Yesterday Mary visited a friend from the area. I spent two hours on the cellphone with Verizon troubleshooting our intermittent Internet signal, got the Bronco washed and spent a good part of the day reading.

Yesterday my good friends Aaron and Cheryl came to visit us. We had an enjoyable three-hour visit during which time we shared a nice breakfast at a local restaurant. They are avid dancers and come to Mesa, Arizona because there’s lot’s of dancing here during the Winter season. They qualify as my “most unusual” friends which means an abundance of laughter.

We last saw them at their home in Oregon last October. Because the RVing lifestyle is a mobile society, based on our current plans, we will not cross paths with them again until 2014. RVers never say “Good-Bye”, instead when we part company we say “See you down the road!”

(NOTE: This note was not in the blog posted February 9, 2012. Little did I know this was the last time I would see Aaron. One year and 17 days later on February 26, 2013 Aaron suffered a heart attack and passed away while doing what he loved to do…ballroom dancing. This Sunday marks the fourth anniversary of his passing. I still miss his friendship greatly. He was 72.)

A couple of days ago our towed Ford Bronco II started having transmission shifting problems. I called my friend and Cracker-Jack mechanic Mike in Washington and he diagnosed it as a bad modulator valve. This small valve fits into the side of the transmission and regulates the shifting process.

I took the Bronco to a local transmission shop and told them of my problems…but did not mention the modulator valve…

They did their diagnostics and proclaimed it to be a faulty modulator valve…

It was quite a tricky job getting the faulty valve out and the new one in place. A couple of hours and a little over $100 and all was well once again.

Soon we will be heading out into the toolies for about one month and I needed and wanted this problem resolved before that time. We just do not need to unnecessarily  break down in the middle of nowhere.
