I’ll be hanging out in this general area until early October, taking maximum advantage of my Thousand Trails membership.

 

(Note: I’m currently a little discombobulated right now. My normal mode is to blog what I experienced yesterday. Right now, I’m a number of blogs behind my experiences. I expect to be back in my normal mode in about two weeks.)

About one month ago I was parked at Thousand Trails in La Conner, Washington where I have visited many times over the years. While there, I visited the Railroad Depot at nearby Anacortes, Washington. The interior was not open.

Yesterday I had lunch with a delightful friend. I met Beverly Malland a number of years ago and we have remained friends over the years and distance of my travels. She has lived in Anacortes, Washington for lots of years…

After lunch I stopped for a cold beer at the Eagles Club which has been in this building since 1923. This is where Bev and I met. See the guy on the corner playing the banjo…that’s her father Rudy Malland…

 

 

 

 

 

Rudy Malland (1916-2002) was known in the area as The Banjo King and local lore has it that he wore out six banjos during his career…

Today’s subject…

 

It’s the third weekend of August and USUALLY that means it’s time for the annual Eagles Salmon BBQ in Anacortes, Washington. But, not this year!  😦

 

I’ve attended this event a number of times in past years and every year look forward to this wonderful culinary treat! Sadly, this year a sign on the wall is indicating due to the unusual high price of salmon this year, the event was cancelled. Locals tell me this year has been a very poor salmon season. So, instead of enjoying the delicious salmon BBQ this year, I can only fondly remember last year and hope it will return next year.

I’ll be hanging out in this general area until about the beginning of October, taking maximum advantage of my Thousand Trails membership and very agreeable weather.

 

This area of Washington has always been one of my very favorite locations in all of the United States. The scenery is absolutely beautiful, the air is fresh and clean, it seldom gets too hot or cold, there are virtually no bugs or mosquitos and the people are very friendly. I’ve been coming here for years and know the area very well. It’s my very favorite place to go to during the Summer…that’s why I keep returning.

 

 

Yesterday’s blog posting was about the San Juan Islands.

One of the most enjoyable things to do in this area is take a day trip on the Washington State Ferry System and wander among the San Juan Islands, just west of Fidalgo Island and Anacortes.

 

In 2011, Mary and I took the Bronco on a day trip to Orcas Island.
