More Photos From Rockhound State Park, Deming, New Mexico

We are still parked at Rockhound State Park, about 10 miles from downtown Deming, New Mexico.

Yesterday Mary and I went for a walk around the park. She went in search of rocks and I went in search of photographs. She found some rocks, I found some photographs.

Here are some photos that I took…

As always you may left click upon an image to see an enlarged view and then click once again to see an even larger view...

First…the view from our dining room window…

Then the rest of the photos…

And a few just before sunset photos…

And finally some just after sunset photos…

This sure is a great photographic location. The sunset ranks among the very best I seen in my entire life.

In other news…

Mary is leaving me once again. She’ll board the 6:11 PM Amtrak Train this evening headed for home to take care of taxes and other business. I’ll continue on traveling alone. I hope to get her back within about six weeks.

AMTRAK-BAKERSFIELD TO SACRAMENTO

Riding Amtrak isn’t terribly exciting, but its easy, comfortable and pleasant compared to flying. I’d take it more often if it was available everywhere. Double decks with scenic windows let you enjoy the passing landscape.

Roomy seating with a plug-in for your computer and a tray. Or, you can choose a table seat for four, play cards with a friend, or write a letter, read, whatever suits you. Great for traveling with kids who can work a puzzle or use their crayons. Roomy isles let you walk from car to car, downstairs to the lavatories, one on every car, or go to the cafe car for a bite to eat. Hot food, or snack food, beer, wine. Quite a nice ride. I love Amtrak.

At one point, the train stopped at a juncture for a passing train to go by before proceeding. I looked out the window and spotted what looked like some stolen booty in the bushes. Couldn’t quite make out what it was.

And, depending on he route, not all landscapes are scenic. Its part of America, but the trip from the S.F. Bay Area to Seattle is a beautiful, scenic route as is the ride across the Northern United States and Canadian Border.

First stop, my daughter’s in Sacramento. She and grandson Theo playing two square on the driveway. I was pleased to have not missed the daffodils in bloom as I have the last two years.

Then, it was necessary to bring my Prius to a Toyota Dealership for a new starter battery, a small 12 volt battery that needed a special installation.  (Special equals expensive.)
Oh, well, an ho-hum. Not quite home yet. I’m here in Sacramento to see a specialist about my shoulder. Hoping for good news, but it is not sounding promising. Life is ever changing. I’ll keep posting.

ABANDONING MY PARTNER

Its that time again, I’m leaving for home and Jim will be in the motor home by himself. According to him, I’m abandoning him. He’s told his friends that I’ve banished him from my house because he is a distraction. Its true. He is a distraction. And, I need time to finish some projects without distractions, but, he makes it sound like I’m running away in a big red bus and never coming back.

Yesterday, we dug out our collective receipts and went through them to figure out who owes who what. I normally buy all of the groceries, and pay for restaurant meals and entertainment while we are on the road. He pays for everything else,  the propane, gas, any incidental site expenses, parking fees, quarters for the laundry and so on. When we add it up, it amounts to about the same.

He is delivering me to Amtrak in Bakersfield where I’ll take the train to Sacramento and pick up my car at my daughters. I’ve begun to hate flying, the security, the waiting, the crowds, the whole thing. Amtrak is a comfortable alternative to travel while sitting at a table to read or compute or whatever. Roomy, comfortable and scenic.

A–CBRECCD–BLOG

Egads! Jim seems to have adopted my cold so we stayed home yesterday and read. We did manage a quick trip to the store for chicken broth to make chicken soup.

Neither of us get bored because we are avid readers. I’m currently reading a Phillip Margolin, Ties That Bind.

Home, in California, is beckoning and I’ve made reservations on Amtrak. I have a bum shoulder and its looking like surgery is going to be my only option. Not something that can be accomplished from the road.

Drat!

Jim reminded me that I’m here and can complain. Something to think about. Anyway, I know this is a pretty  CRummy blog, but when you have excess letters, you may as well use them. Or, Can Break Ribs Easily Coughing, Coughing Dreadfully.   (Where’s the damned Kleenex?)
