Glacier National Park, Montana – Day 1 (GA610)

The motorhome is parked at Mary’s home in Murphys, California. I’m planning to depart here April 22nd.

 

 

 

Since my RVing life is changing (see above), I’m starting to re-visit previously visited places. So rather than constantly re-blogging past entries, I’ve decided to do something different.

  In 2011-2013, Mary and I did a 682 day, 12,679 miles in the motorhome and 8,000 miles in the Bronco, circumnavigation of the United States, which I called The Great Adventure. I called it so because other than my oldest granddaughter’s high school graduation in June in Connecticut, I didn’t know where we would be going or when we would be there!

So, unless I do something really different and unusual warranting a new blog entry, I’ll be posting entries from that trip.

Yesterday I drove the motorhome the 75 miles from Browning to Glacier National Park, Montana.

 

We continued traveling along U.S.Highway 2 West.

We unexpectedly came upon a herd pf Buffalo and no place to pull over. Mary grab her camera and shot this photo with her camera set on the wrong setting…

 

 

 

 

 

I doctored it up as much as I could then decided…let’s really make this look like long ago, so I turned it into a black and white photo…

 

 

 

 

 

After more than 1,000 miles of crossing the Great Plains where trees are few to be found, it felt a little strange to be among so many trees once again…

 

 

 

 

 

Now in the Rockies, we ran alongside the Flathead River…

 

 

 

 

 

We arrive at Glacier National Park…

 

 

 

 

 

We ended up in a nice pull-thru site. No utilities at the individual sites. With our Golden Age Pass camping is $10 a night. We’ll be here for two nights…

This was one of my funnest days ever as a photographer. I really enjoy shooting colors, reflections, shapes and patterns that result in abstracts. On land, everything remains static. Yesterday was a decent day. 79 degrees…humidity still far to high. Today’s forecast 83 degrees. YUCKITTY!

 

 

We’ll continue our westward travel later this morning.

Silent Wings Museum – Lubbock, Texas

The motorhome is parked at Mary’s home in Murphys, California. She is busy with personal matters.

Last September during my eye exam at the Seattle, Washington VA Hospital I was told I have a large cataract in my right eye that should be attended to in the next year. My new doctor has made the necessary arrangements to have my eye problem corrected. I’m hoping to have my cataract surgery completed prior to Mary going to Turkey with her grandson on April 18th.

My new eye exam date is now March 19th.

Some extra photos today. Yesterday early morning, I saw a portion of Mary’s bottle wall being reflected in the motorhome driver’s outside rear view mirror…

A more relaxed mode..

After our 682 day on-the-go 2011-2013 circumnavigation of the United States, we have decided to slip into a more relaxed mode. In the next few months we will be traveling through areas previously explored. Unless we do something unusual, this Blog will feature a photo album from the circumnavigation and will change daily.

VARIATIONS ON A SINGLE DAY.

We started our day as usual with this same group of speed walkers. They tend to walk in clumps, some ahead and some behind, anywhere from 12 to 15 people. We’ve been joining them about midway since my ankle gave me a problem the first day here.

Yesterday, I dropped out after 15 minutes because I wanted to try the Zumba group. It is a 45 minute program on tape. It definitely gives you a cardio workout. I quit after 30 minutes. It basically uses all of my yoga and tai chi moves, only all upright and faster to fun music. It was good.

Bruce and Pat arrived just before 10:00 for water aerobics. But, they had changed their minds and decided to head home early.

We said our goodbyes. Bruce and Pat are such fun people to be with. We had a great time. They will visit me in Murphys sometime in March/April. After lunch, Jim and I decided to go to a movie, “The Dallas Buyers CLub,” which he had heard was a good movie. And it was a good movie. It was the story of AIDS patient Ron Woodruff who pushed the FDA to allow drugs to AIDS victims before they were approved. And, he exposed the testing procedures for AIDS as flawed. It was a depressing movie, so we decided to see “Nebraska.” It too, was depressing despite some comedic relief in places. The acting in both movies was great. Can we pick ’em?” I guess I like happiness and joy in entertainment. Our government machinations are already depressing enough.

The night was so balmy we decided to take a night walk and see what kind of pictures we could come up with in our cameras. All hand-held, no tripods.

This one reminded me of a little village amidst the palms. I guess it is in a way.

This picture was just a black sky with a light streak in it. Adding light gave me a beautiful abstract.

This entirely black sky also turned into an abstract with light added. Don’t understand what the lens picks up to allow this to happen.

As we circumnavigated the park, I aimed at cars and trucks passing on the highway and got their lights streaking by.

And interesting light shows from lights in the park.

We peeked in at the evening card players in the recreation hall. Very concentrated on their cards, they paid us no attention.

People were enjoying the hot tub.

And a rousing game of water volleyball.

We keep wondering what our pictures would be like with an expensive camera. Technology changes so fast, it is likely to happen.

These little yard ornaments came out pretty clear. We had never taken a series of night pictures before. We learned a bit about our camera’s ability. We both own the same Sony,  HX200Z.
