Yesterday I drove the Bronco the about six miles to an ancient Pueblo Indian site called Tsankawi (sank-ah-WEE), an undeveloped and unexcavated detached portion on Bandelier National Monument where they lived in rock caves.
To get a better understanding about these people you should click this Wikipedia informational link… http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tsankawi
The volcanic rock here is called soft tuff and is almost like a hardened mud with very gritty sand. As a rock it is soft, so after centuries the footpaths have worn into the rock. As you look at today’s photos, look for what might be called “canals” worn into the rock, sometimes several feet deep.
The interesting thing about this national monument is rather than walking on asphalt walkways, you are allowed to walk on the actual trails walked on by these ancient Indians. I walked a 1.5 mile loop trail to get these photographs.
I’m coming to find that when I photograph “old things”, I prefer using the watercolor mode on my camera…

Gorgeous! I’d love to be able to visit the west someday. Stunning photos!
Thanks for your comment. I enjoyed looking at your photos. C’mon west, you’ll love it! I’m originally from the northeast, but have been hanging around mostly in the west since 1980.
