38th Annual Memorial Day Service – Anderson, California

Mary is no longer available for RV traveling, but we remain good friends.

The motorhome is parked at VFW Post #9650 in Anderson, California. I’ll depart here later this morning.

 

 

Yesterday was Memorial Day and I attended a very moving one-hour long service at the Anderson Cemetery.

 

 

The day started early at 5:30 AM when a large group of volunteers showed up to load the 168, 20 foot metal flagpoles and associated items…

I arrived at the Anderson Cemetery about 10:30 AM. The Avenue of Flags is beautiful…

This retired Navy Master Chief served in the Seabees for 32 years and will be 92 years old in September…

 

 

 

 

The Honor Guard commenced the ceremonies at 11AM…

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The only sad note of the day was…

According to Wikipedia, Anderson has a population of approximately 10,000 people. It saddened me to see that only about 125 people attended this beautiful one-hour ceremony.

 

Thank you VFW Post #9650 for allowing me to spend the Memorial Day weekend and for being one of the friendliest VFW Post in the United States!
