The Bronco’s Back! (GA66)

Mary is no longer available for RV traveling, but we remain good friends.
Because we have 4,000+ postings, I’ve invited her to continue posting entries on this blog.
I’m currently in my 22nd year of full-time RVing and my lifestyle is changing, For more info click Here

The motorhome is parked at Mary’s home in Murphys, California. I expect to leave here May 8th. While here, I’ll be doing routine maintenance, repairs and general cleaning.

Since my RVing life is changing (see above), I’m starting to re-visit previously visited places. So rather than constantly re-blogging past entries, I’ve decided to do something different.

In 2011-2013, Mary and I did a 682 day, 12,679 miles in the motorhome and 8,000 miles in the Bronco, circumnavigation of the United States, which I called The Great Adventure. I called it so because other than my oldest granddaughter’s high school graduation in June in Connecticut, I didn’t know where we would be going or when we would be there!

So, unless I do something really different and unusual warranting a new blog entry, I’ll be posting entries from that trip.

Yesterday at 3:00 PM my cell phone rang. Almost one week ago to the minute from when I dropped it off at the garage…the transmission rebuild process on my 1986 Ford Bronco II had been completed and they were calling to let me know they were coming to pick me up…

After paying the bill of $1,959.25, including taxes of $134.57, I took it for about a ten-mile test run including the 4-wheel drive system. It seems to be running strong, so hopefully it will continue to do so for a long time to come.

Today I plan to put it to a real test. It’s a 44 mile drive to the Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument. The brochure warns that the drive is over twisty mountain roads and as such to plan two hours for the drive. It’s important that I know the transmission is sound before I leave the area because I have a 24 month, 24,000 mile, local only warranty. That’s because my trusted friend and mechanic back in Washington State told me he wouldn’t let Aamco Transmissions, that have a national warranty, work on his lawnmower!

The garage owner and the mechanic on my transmission, Nacho, seems to me to be an honest individual and I’m of the belief they did a proper and complete repair job. The further away I get from Silver City, New Mexico the harder it will be for me to get any warranty work done. So, hence the heavy-duty test today. Hopefully it will be completed with no problems.
