The motorhome is parked at Shady Acres Mobile Home and RV Park in Yuma, Arizona. I expect to be here a while hiding out from the cold, wet weather. Average temperatures in January are high 69.6, low 47.6. In February, high 73.8, low 50.1. As nice as Yuma is, I wouldn’t want to be here in August. 🙂

2004 Central America trip…
This trip ended up being 343 days and 16,000+ miles through the back-country of Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama. 11 rigs started the trip, within a week we broke into three smaller groups for ease of traveling. Only myself and one other rig went the full, pre-planned route. All the others dropped out for various reasons. All returned safely to the United States. I’m planning to show these photos, more or less, 10 a day, whenever I’m not doing something else deserving a blog entry. FINALLY, it must be remembered these photos are prior to my switching to digital in 2006. The films were developed during our trip and the lack of quality control sometimes is plainly evident.
Today…Panama (north-bound) #2…
The rigs are still parked in Colon, Panama. Today Bud and I head out with the Bronco on a day trip to the remote northern coast of Panama. During our 343 day trip I drove the Bronco about 5,000 miles. Many of those miles were to places we could never take the motorhomes. Like today…

Located at the place where the Chargres River and the Atlantic Ocean meet…
Well before the Panama Canal was constructed, the Chargres River provided the only navigable waterway into the Isthmus of Panama…
Here the Chargres River takes a sharp right turn heading inland for about 25 miles or half-way across the Isthmus…
Then it was another 25 miles through thick jungle to Panama City, the primary Spanish storage location for the gold and silver on the Pacific Ocean coast…
A better look at the sharp right turn where ships bearing adventurers heading for the California gold fields in 1849 entered the Isthmus of Panama via the Chargres River…
It took 11 days for the pirate Henry Morgan to overcome this fort in 1671…
On his way to loot and burn Panama City that we read about several blog entries past…
The scenery here at this remote area was very beautiful and made for a pleasant visit. It was not hard to imagine the battle that took place here…
Back in Colon, we cross the Panama Canal once again. No bridges on the northern end of the canal which is being held back by the huge steel gates on the right…
This traffic on this one-way steel grated roadway is controlled by traffic lights. You have quite a wait when the gates are open to allow a ship passage…
Next we continue north into Costa Rica…
