A New Microwave…

Mary is no longer available for RV traveling, but we remain good friends.
Because we have almost 4,000 postings, I’ve invited her to continue posting entries on this blog.

The motorhome is parked at Shady Acres Mobile Home and RV Park in Yuma, Arizona. I expect to be here a couple of months hiding out from the cold, wet weather. Average temperatures in January are high 69.6, low 47.6. In February, high 73.8, low 50.1. As nice as Yuma is, I wouldn’t want to be here in August.  🙂

Three day ago my microwave oven stopped working. A louder than usual buzzing and food not heating told me that the magnetron finally gave up after nine years of service. My problem became trying to locate a new one with essentially the same dimensions to fit in the hole above the stove…

The now non-heating outgoing Deawoo microwave…

Dimensions of a new unit became critical as there are restraining straps behind the stainless steel trim plate to hold it in place in a moving motorhome…

Here’s the hole the new unit will have to fit in…

After several hours online looking at dimensions, ratings and reviews of the many models offered, I selected this off-brand because its dimensions were close and also because it enjoyed good ratings and reviews. I bought it at Lowe’s here in Yuma…

The major problem I faced was the new unit was lower than the old unit…it needed to be raised. I ended up taking the legs off the old unit and installing them on the new unit. Because of the new unit bottoms configuration, I could not locate the legs on the corners, but they still worked this way…

To get the retaining straps to work I had to drill some holes in the new unit. That and some help from my secret weapon (an old suitcase filled with miscellaneous odds and ends) finally got the restraining straps and trim plate to cooperate…

After three hours of effort on Christmas Eve day, the new unit was finally in place. Looks almost as good in place as the old unit…

Hopefully I’ll get at least nine years out of this new unit! So far, it’s working fine.

Recently I’ve been running blogs about my 2004 Central America trip. While here I’m intending to continue those postings while also alternating with Yuma area blogs.

I hope you enjoyed the photos.

Yesterday was partly sunny and 65 degrees. Forecast for today is sunny, windy and 59 degrees.

Enjoying nice weather is another joy in the life of a full-time RVer!

Enjoying 65-75 degree temperatures with low humidity most of the year is a primary joy in the RVing lifestyle!

      Hi Bev,
Thanks for your comment. I’m not sure I’d use the word amazing. Perhaps creative? Hope you had a nice Christmas.
      Hugs, Jim
