Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad, Colorado

With the motorhome parked at American Legion Post #28 in downtown Durango…we walked the six blocks and boarded the train for a 9:15 AM departure. It’s 45.2 miles to Silverton. To read about Silverton, click this link…

The elevation in Durango is at 6,512 feet and in Silverton 9,308 feet…a gain of  2,796 feet. With a maximum grade of 4%, it took us 3.5 hours to reach Silverton…going uphill. We enjoyed a two-hour lunch break and walk-around time in Silverton after which we started downhill  and returned to Durango in 3.5 hours.

Seven hours on a train made for a long day…but the scenery made it all worthwhile.

Enjoying beautiful nature scenery is yet another joy of the full-time RVing lifestyle!
