El Malpais National Monument, New Mexico…

El Malpais in Spanish means bad country or bad lands. Yesterday Mary and I drove the Bronco there about 25 miles from our parking spot at the VFW Post in Grants New Mexico. The primary features of this national monument are sandstone cliffs, a huge arch and 30 mile lava field.

While standing upon the sandstone cliffs, it was impossible to comprehend the 68 to 133 millions of years in age. A most interesting place to visit!

Today we’ll move on to Bluewater State Park about 35 miles distant.
