Every day during the winter season, thousands of American and Canadian snowbirds cross on foot into this small Mexican border town. The reason…medical, dental, pharmacy and eyeglass services are available for about 25-33% the cost of similar services in the United States. Here’s a link about Algodones…

I’ve walked across this border crossing a number of times in the last 14 years that I’ve been a full-time RVer. Yesterday was the first time I’ve driven across the border here in Algodones. The reason…to obtain a service not available to me in the United States.

When I bought my 1986 Ford Bronco II last August…the only thing that did not work was the air-conditioner. It uses the old freon coolant R-12, no longer legal to be sold in the United States.

R-12 comes in one pound cans at $20 per can.

The whole process took about one hour Four cans of R-12 and $10 for labor…total cost $90.00..

Since the service was available so inexpensively, I had the engine washed for $15. Then for $10 more, completely cleaned, inside and out!

Looking good for an old-timer.!

The only down-side…the vehicle line back into the United States was two-hours long!

Finally, after a two-hour line, I’m about to cross back into the United States.
