El Vado State Park, New Mexico – Day 1
August 18, 2012
Yesterday I moved the motorhome the about 30 miles from Heron Lake State Park to El Vado State Park about 30 miles south of Chama, New Mexico.
When you buy a New Mexico annual state park camping permit, it is subject to the following provisions: you may stay in a park for three weeks, if you desire to return to the same park you must leave for six days before you can return. I understand and accepted those provisions when I bought the pass.
If you are new to this Blog, you may not know that I was substantially injured in a tragic accident on May 27th and have been in a recovery mode since that time. If you are not familiar with the accident you may view it by clicking this link… http://wp.me/pDCku-4Eh
To understand the full scope of the accident you will need to also view the several subsequent Blog entries.
Needing to recover, shortly after the accident, I retreated to the New Mexico State Park system to recover from my injuries and reach a higher elevation to escape the oppressive heat. I ended up at Heron Lake State Park. Shortly after my arrival, I explained my predicament to the folks in charge there and because they are compassionate people, they allowed me to stay beyond the three-week period. In my condition I really ought not to be driving the motorohome.
Anyways, to make a long story short, apparently a heartless bureaucrat in the New Mexico State Park system happened to see my Blog entries and I was told I had to leave the Heron lake Park for the six-day period. Hence the move to El Vado State Park. The below Google Earth image shows the relative locations involved. The upper right X was my location at Heron Lake. The lower left X indicates my current location at El Vado Lake State Park. The way the crow files there is only 5.5 miles between the two campgrounds, but because of the local land configurations, one must go back to Highway 64 before heading for El Vado Sate Park making the driving distance between the two locations about 30 miles…
Because it is further out in the toolies, EL Vado State Park is not as busy as Heron Lake State Park.
Here are some photos I took upon my arrival yesterday…
As always you may left click upon an image to see an enlarged view and then click once again to see an even larger view…
This is the view from the dinette window…
My camping spot…
This location allows me to leave the Bronco attached…
An afternoon thunderstorm approaching…
The sun sets behind this mountain so there will be no beautiful sunset photos from this location like there is at Heron Lake State Park…

While I’m recovering, Mary remains at her home in California tending to doctor’s appointments, her rentals and other miscellaneous business.
Enjoying beautiful lakes is another joy in the life of a full-time RVer!
