Heron Lake State Park, New Mexico – Day 18

As a holder of the New Mexico Annual Camping Permit (non-resident $225), I can stay up to three weeks in a park which I am currently doing here at Heron Lake.
In the day before yesterday’s Blog entry I mentioned that I had my best day physically since the May 27th accident. So much so, that I was able to climb down and back up the 600 feet to the Rio Chama and suspension bridge below. Two weeks ago because of my physical state I could only look down and take photos from the overlook and river below.
The locals tell me that New Mexico is in a several year-long drought and is clearly shown by the level of the water. The bridge was built by the Youth Conservation Corp in 1980.
Yesterday I showed photos during my descent, today I’ll show the river and suspension bridge…
